I’m five years old and I begin my first dance class. There’s never really anything I’ve ever loved as much as dancing. I have been the typical jack ( jill?) of all trades, master of none, but the one thing I always stuck with is dancing. Because I’ve been striving to be perfect in everything, I would never give myself permission to think of myself as a dancer. Sure I danced, but I was never a dance-er. Even though dance was one way to burn calories, more importantly was the best and most rewarding was to experience joy. And I mean true joy, where I felt l whole, limitless and connected.
I am learning what joy feels like again.
Dance, I love you.
Body, thank you for hosting all this joy.
Let’s keep remembering.
